Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum
Design a promotional print publication to help the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum promote a collection of your choice. Assess the message and do research to inform your design direction. Use Adobe InDesign to create dynamic type, image and message in a visually engaging way. Use design principles with type (use paragraph and character styles), image, and a modular grid to arrange all elements. Design multiple iterations and refine. Think about the user experience to inform all design choices.
This publication honors the tradition and legacy of Cooper Hewitt and the Botanical expressions exhibit. The use of organic shapes allude to the same shapes found in the ceramics, illustrations, jewelry, glassware and textiles. The subtle font choices and natural inspired color palette correspond to the trends that inspired the designers in the exhibition. The end result is a publication that pays homage to the styles and structures of artists who are continually inspired by botanicals and nature, while still maintaining a high level of polish to represent the elevated design standard of the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt museum.
